Title Decider? Two Titans Meet As Chelsea Face Arsenal In Heavyweight WSL Clash

Emma Hayes will have her eyes on top spot this weekend

Hyperbole is common as muck in the world of sports journalism. But some matches are so monumental in a season there is no need for exaggeration. Chelsea vs Arsenal, a top of the table clash between the two giants of the Womens Super League this season, is likely to decide the destination of the title.

Only two points separate the two London teams and Emma Hayes in-form Blues can go back to the top of the table, if they can secure all three points against the current league leaders. This season has been one full of surprises and given before a ball was kicked many thought that Manchester City would be best placed to challenge Chelsea for the title.

Both sides lost only once match apiece last term, and Hayes squad looked as though they were best-placed to win successive titles, yet they were not counting on a whirlwind start to the season from Jonas Eidevalls Gunners. A 3-2 opening day victory over Chelsea in the reverse fixture sent shockwaves through the division and set the tone for an impressive debut campaign for the manager who has revitalised a group of talented players.

The super Swede has made a huge impact on the north Londoners with top scorer Vivianne Miedema looking to leave Arsenal with the best possible parting gift. The Dutch star is out of contract this summer and looking to move on to fulfil her Champions League desires, yet she is still performing at the highest level as the club look to win the Super League for the first time since 2019.

Miedema will leave the league as the top ever goalscorer andshe will be a massive loss to the division, but a parting gift of a league title would be a fitting end to her time in England. In the battle of the big guns, she has more than held her own up against the devastating Chelsea duo of Sam Kerr and Fran Kirby. Miedema is currently sandwiched at the top of the goalscoring charts by the feared duo, but the Arsenal forward has had goalscoring help from Kim Little, who has been in scintillating form so far this season with six goals to her name.
